EBiSC Collection

The aim of the European Bank of induced pluripotent Stem Cells (EBiSC) is to make human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) easily accessible to medical researchers both studying diseases and developing new treatments.  EBiSC is a large European public-private partnership project supported jointly by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and members of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA).

Our role in the project, as the European Collection of Authenticated Cell Cultures (ECACC), is to receive fully authenticated and quality controlled iPSCs from the central EBiSC facility at IBMT Fraunhofer, store and make available to the international scientific research community.

EBiSC launched a second phase project in March 2019, EBiSC2, to become a self-sustaining central iPSC hub. Find out more at

It is also important to note that EBiSC also incorporates a significant number of iPSCs which are from the HipSci Collection and therefore can appear twice on our website. The HipSci Collection was set up to encourage access from academic users and for this reason prices are lower through the HipSci Collection in order to take this into account.

You can learn more about EBiSC in the EBiSC Brochure and in our EBiSC infographic.
